In mathematics education, we want every student to develop mathematical power. In other words, we help you learn to explore, analyze, and reason logically. Beyond those skills, students learn a variety of mathematical methods that help them solve routine and non-routine problems.

Every math class is a "learning community", a place that gives students the freedom to express their understanding of math. Individually, in pairs, and in groups, students become better mathematicians by solving meaningful problems. Every student uses math's technological tools--calculators and computers--to solve problems and grasp concepts.

In addition to becoming more comfortable with math, we want students to develop positive attitudes and make connections with other subjects.

"In Mathematics courses at the American Hebrew Academy, all students learn strategies for approaching life's problems in quantifiable and logical ways. Because our classes are so small, everyone's participation is essential. No one gets left out."

-Steve LeWinter, Mathematics Department Chair
